Company History
Founded in 1974 by Wayne Litz, Morristown Iron and Metal was one of the first scrap metal recyclers in East Tennessee. Wayne had very little financial resources at the time but he knew he could build a business by establishing relationships built on honesty. He worked tirelessly for years crushing cars throughout East TN, Kentucky, Virginia and the Carolinas. Many of his original customers still are loyal to MIM for their car crushing needs. He always had the belief that all things are possible with God!
After many years, the recycling business began to change and the need for more auto shredders became evident. In 1988 Wayne installed one of the first auto shredders in East TN. This was a game changer for the company as they no longer were selling scrap to shredders but had the ability to shred scrap themselves. Wayne continued to grow the business increasing is size each year until his son Ross came into the business in 2010.
Ross Litz, took over the role of directing the company into the next phase of growth. Ross quickly learned the recycling business was becoming global and competition was ever increasing. He had to think globally, not locally in order to secure the highest prices possible. One of the first objectives was to replace the old shredder that Wayne had installed in 1988. Over a two year period, a new shredder was built which came online in 2016. Shortly after, Ross directed a new non-ferrous plant to be built which went online in 2018. These two large investments have set the stage for years of growth for Morristown Iron and Metal.
